The Gold Coast is Australia's sixth largest city, home to over 635,000 people, with one of the fastest growing economies in the country. We have a Gross Region Product (GRP) estimated to be more than $35 billion and a five-year average annual growth rate of 4.4%. We are a city known for our lifestyle and diversity, with almost one in three residents born overseas.

The city boasts close to one million visitors each year from countries all over the world. With a vibrant arts and culture scene, a beautiful natural environment and world-class tourism attractions, we also have a proud history and a heritage to preserve and protect for future generations.

Our Indigenous locals are descendants of the traditional Aboriginal people of the region. We collaborate with our local Indigenous community to document their history and culture and share it with everyone.

We have strong ties with sister cities around the world and continue to grow the diversity and strength of our international connections. This creates real business opportunities in trade and investment in a range of industries. The Gold Coast is the only Local Government area to have TradeStart Advisors as part of their City Economy team providing experienced advice to help businesses achieve success in international markets. At the same time, our Digital City Program is transforming how we live, connect, and grow, with the view of the Gold Coast soon being one of Australia's leading digital cities.

We invite you to join one of the fastest growing and most exciting regions in Queensland, Australia: the Moreton Bay Region. We are the third largest Council by population in Australia with over 470,000 residents growing to 700,000 by 2041.

The region is located in South East Queensland where one in seven Australians reside and neighbours Queensland’s capital city, Brisbane. The region offers some of the best connectivity on the east coast of Australia, with the Bruce Highway providing seamless road and rail access to the Brisbane CBD, Brisbane International Airport and the Port of Brisbane. The region is home to more than 29,000 businesses and is a leading advanced manufacturing hub for Queensland with many of the state’s and Australia’s largest exporters basing themselves in our industrial estates.

With vibrant entertainment options, thriving cultural and community hubs and pristine environmental areas, you are sure to love the many opportunities that the Moreton Bay region has to offer. With major regional infrastructure projects such as The Mill at Moreton Bay underpinning new, exciting opportunities for continued economic development, Moreton Bay Regional Council is also spearheading the Regional Economic Development Strategy 2020-2041 (REDS) to boost investment, employment growth and business confidence into the future.

Today the Sunshine Coast is home to approximately 340,000 people. By 2041, it is estimated we will grow to a region of over 500,000 people.

As the region grows, so does its digital economy and export capabilities, particularly for the agribusiness industry. This a result of Council’s forward-thinking investments in the international submarine cable and the expansion of the Sunshine Coast Airport.

Supported by this infrastructure, Sunshine Coast Council continues to:

  • strengthen the region’s export profile and trade performance in domestic and global markets
  • increase the agility and market responsiveness of supply chains
  • increase collaborations locally, nationally, and internationally
  • increase the capacity of local businesses to expand and adapt with new opportunities.

Sunshine Coast Council works with all levels of government to ensure productive relationships and connections are maintained and expanded to grow the region’s export opportunities. In parallel, exporter development and capability programs are delivered by Council, supporting local businesses to adapt to market changes and respond to opportunities by developing capacity in supply chain and logistics, trademarks and intellectual property, and advanced manufacturing.

With their national and worldwide partners, Sunshine Coast Council will continue to deliver a targeted program of trade and investment initiatives.
