Metropolitan areas can be classified via the Health Workforce locator. The tool can be helpful when trying to clarify a regional vs metro applicant in your state or territory.
The Health Workforce Locator divides Australia into 3 zones and 7 classes:
- metropolitan zone (RRMA 1 and 2)
- rural zone (RRMA 3 to 5)
- remote zone (RRMA 6 and 7).
This is not mandatory but merely an indicator, final decision is to the discretion of the state or territory managers.
Your application can only be submitted in the state or territory program where your organisation’s head office is located or where the majority of operations are established.
Before applying, check the eligibility criteria. If you’re still not sure whether you’re eligible, contact us for clarification.

Also note that it’s easy to enter more than one category – so you won’t find yourself repeating yourself. Multiple applications will only need to change the category specific section, found in Section 3 of the application questions.

Queensland finalists will be announced prior to the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards Dinner in September. National winners will be announced at the Australian Export Awards Dinner in late November.
If you export into one country but your product is distributed to another country, you should just enter the country you export directly to.
- The judges are looking for evidence of a sound capital base (substantial net profit) and sufficient capital (cash and resources) to support export/ international activity.
- Whilst estimates can be used for the 22/23 financial year, we encourage you to enter actual figures where available. If actual figures become available before the closing date, you can update your figures accordingly.
- Make sure to explain any losses or significant decreases in profits – the judges do not know your business and cannot assume what has caused unusual financial results.
- If you succeed as a national finalist the de-identified applications are assessed by Austrade financial team for confidentiality purposes.
The next national finalist will not be elevated to the status of national finalist.
If, following the presentation ceremony, the business returns to solvency, then the award cannot be reclaimed.
