Success always in fashion for Culture Kings and a.k.a. Brands
Queensland streetwear retailer Culture Kings grew its global presence in 2021 after a major investment by US-based a.k.a. Brands.
Founded in Brisbane in 2008 by Tah-nee and Simon Beard, Culture Kings curates more than 100 leading streetwear brands and is known for its worldwide celebrity following, exclusive pieces and immersive in-store experiences featuring famous DJs.
The company’s huge success and international profile attracted interest from a.k.a. Brands, a US-based platform that markets high-growth fashion brands direct to global markets.
The move to the platform will accelerate Culture Kings’ rapid expansion, particularly in the USA.
It’s also expected to drive growth at Culture Kings’ home base in Brisbane, leading to expanded warehouse and fulfilment operations and new jobs in management and creative roles to support growing overseas sales.
Trade and Investment Queensland’s investment team assisted a.k.a. brands and provided support over a number of months to help bring the deal to fruition.
Culture Kings’ founders are continuing as COO and CEO under the new arrangement and retain a large ownership stake.
