From its humble beginnings under the guidance of founder, German engineer Frank Spork, Centor has expanded globally, with manufacturing locations in China, Poland, the United States, and most recently, Japan.

The company’s ongoing success is a testament to the power of innovation, quality, and strategic partnerships and it was named winner of the Manufacturing and Advanced Materials category at the Premier of Queensland's Export Awards 2024.

Entering the Japanese market

As Centor sought to break into the Japanese market, they turned to Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) for assistance.

Centor’s General Manager for Asia Pacific, Marcio Casagrande, shared how TIQ played a pivotal role in navigating the complexities of doing business in Japan.

“We reached out and connected with Tak Adachi, TIQ’s Senior Trade Commissioner in Japan, and the TIQ team were incredibly helpful,” Marcio said.

“They asked the right questions, helping us to understand how business is conducted in Japan. This was crucial in helping us adapt our approach and make a successful entry into this competitive market.”

Advice for aspiring exporters

Marcio says the first step for Queensland companies exploring export opportunities should always involve reaching out to TIQ.

“Even if you’re just considering the possibility of exporting, don’t hesitate to make that initial call,” he said

“TIQ has a wealth of knowledge, resources and people across the globe. They’re the perfect starting point, whether you’re ready to export or still in the planning phase.”

Learning how to trade with Japan

For Centor, the partnership with TIQ was key to overcoming the challenges of entering a market as demanding as Japan’s, where cultural nuances and business practices require careful navigation.

A model for expanding into new international markets

TIQ’s support helped Centor refine its approach as it entered a market that many businesses find hard to penetrate.

Centor’s experience highlights the importance of leveraging TIQ’s expertise and global reach to expand into new international markets. Their success story is a shining example of how Queensland businesses can thrive through strategic partnerships and the right support.
