Brisbane-based healthtech company Audeara is transforming the way people experience sound with its personalised audio technology now reaching audiences in 10 countries.

What began as a solution to improve access to better hearing health has evolved into a globally recognised export success, helping people tailor their listening experiences through responsive headphones and ear buds.

Export success: The Audeara team celebrate winning the International Health category at the 2024 Premier of Queensland Export Awards.

From concept to global healthtech leader

Audeara was born out of Co-Founder and CEO Dr James Fielding’s firsthand experience as a junior doctor, witnessing the challenges patients faced in accessing hearing care.

Originally developed as hearing test headphones, the company’s noise-cancelling Bluetooth technology quickly evolved into a consumer-friendly product that tailors sound to an individual’s hearing profile.

The company’s innovative approach caught the attention of Hearing Australia, leading to a contract that placed Audeara’s headphones in every audiology clinic in the country.

From there, the company expanded globally, now exporting to Taiwan, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and New Zealand.

A partner in global growth

Dr Fielding said TIQ played a critical role in Audeara’s export success, helping the company navigate new markets and forge partnerships with key global brands.

“TIQ has been with us every step of the way,” Dr Fielding said. “From our early efforts to break into the US and Japan, to our recent partnerships in Taiwan and China, having on-the-ground support has made a huge difference in building connections and securing export opportunities.”

Queensland’s healthtech sector: a growing export powerhouse

Audeara’s success is part of a broader healthtech boom in Queensland. The biomedical industry contributes over $2 billion annually to the state’s economy, employing more than 13,000 people and generating over $500 million in exports.

Queensland’s strategic position as a hub for innovation makes it an attractive base for scaling health solutions globally.

Dr Fielding said Queensland had developed a reputation for innovation.

“You can reach anywhere in the world from Queensland while benefiting from the lifestyle and business support available here,” he said.

Recognition and credibility: the impact of the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards

Audeara’s export success was recognised at the 2024 Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards, where the company took out the International Health category.

“Winning the export award wasn’t just about the trophy—it’s about credibility on the global stage,” said Dr Fielding. “When potential partners see that we have government backing and industry recognition, it strengthens our reputation and opens doors in international markets.”

World Hearing Day: a chance to raise awareness

With a vision to lead the global conversation around hearing healthit’s not surprising that Audeara is speaking out on World Hearing Day (3 March 2025), highlighting the importance of hearing health and encouraging early intervention.

“The theme for World Hearing Day is ‘Changing Mindsets: Empower Yourself’, which aligns perfectly with what we’re trying to achieve,” Dr Fielding said.

“People often don’t think about hearing loss until it’s too late. We want to change that by giving them access to technology that enhances their listening experience today.”

Hearing loss affects one in six Australians, and many wait an average of seven years before seeking help.

Dr Fielding said Audeara’s technology provides a crucial bridge between traditional hearing aids and consumer-friendly audio solutions.

“We’ve gone from making headphones to developing a personal sound amplifier that changes how people experience the world around them,” he said.

“We’re not just creating products—we’re building solutions that help people stay connected to the things they love.”
