UK investment in Queensland sunshine
Queensland’s renewables sector received another vote of confidence in 2020, with the news that UK investors United Green would purchase a majority share in the $350 million Rodds Bay Solar Farm, south of Gladstone.
This will be United Green’s first foray into the Australian energy market, adding to its impressive list of wind and solar developments in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Rodds Bay Solar Farm is the latest project for Renew Estate, a joint venture between Australian companies Energy Estate and Beast Solutions and global solar operator WIRSOL Energy.
Renew Estate Director Vincent Dwyer said it was a team effort with Trade and Investment Queensland to attract United Green to the Sunshine State.
‘We worked closely with Trade and Investment Queensland to secure the investment, and we are very grateful for their introductions and support,’ he said.
‘We’re continuing to work with them to connect into local supply chains as part of delivering jobs and regional economic development.’
The local community will also benefit from the power of Queensland sunshine, with the new solar farm expected to create 300+ jobs during construction and many full-time positions once it starts operating.
